Join the National Sculpture Society’s Affiliated Artist-in-Residence at Chesterwood, Ed Fraughton, for an artist’s talk at his studio in the Morris Center as he ends his month long residency. Q & A and refreshments to follow.
Hailing from Utah, Fraughton is primarily known for his epic spectrum of human and animal subjects in monumental works and individual collectors editions that often relate to the history of the American West. Fraughton's stylistic goals follow the American Neo-classic/Beaux-Arts, impressionistic realism traditions of sculptors in the circle of Daniel Chester French. “I have won many awards but being at Chesterwood as an artist-in-residence is the pinnacle of my career.” states Fraughton, “I know my work will be improved by climbing inside the heart and soul of one of the greatest American Renaissance masters of all time.”
The co-sponsor of the residency is the National Sculpture Society, which promotes excellence in sculpture that is inspired by the natural world. Programs include Sculpture Review magazine, virtual interviews and discussions, as well as scholarships, grants, exhibitions and competitions.
In 1893, founding members – including Daniel Chester French, Augustus St. Gaudens, Stanford White and J.Q.A. Ward – established the Society to “spread the knowledge of good sculpture.”
