The Many Faces of Love & Rosing
Ian Spencer Bell dances a reconstruction of Isadora Duncan’s 1912 solo The Many Faces of Love in the studio garden where Duncan herself danced 125 years ago. Pianist Lauren Aloia plays Johannes Brahms’ 16 Waltzes for the performance. The program opens with Bell’s new dance and poetry piece, Rosing. The performance is approximately 35 minutes and occurs in two outdoor locations, both with seating. A talk and a reception follow. The rain date is Thursday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m.
Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) was a pioneer of modern dance. Her celebration of classical ideals combined with her natural, athletic movement revolutionized dance and theater. A lifelong lover of poetry, Duncan was schooled by California Poet Laureate Ina Coolbrith and married to Russian poet Sergei Yesenin. Her memoir, My Life, was published just after her famous, tragic death.
Ian Spencer Bell is a dancer and poet. He has danced his solos at Boston Center for the Arts, Jacob’s Pillow, Poetry Foundation, and Queens Museum.
Lauren Aloia is a classical pianist who has performed with Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and Newtown Chamber Orchestra.
