From the Chesterwood Collection:
The Lincoln Memorial Centennial Exhibition

The dedication of the Lincoln Memorial took place on May 22, 1922. In 2022 Chesterwood celebrated the centennial of the most recognizable memorial in the United States and a top tourist attraction for people from around the world by creating this special exhibition. Daniel Chester French worked on his seated figure of Abraham Lincoln, the focal point of the memorial, at Chesterwood, and today the 6-foot working model of the statue remains in his Stockbridge Studio. Chesterwood’s collection also includes maquettes, working models, and various studies for the seated Lincoln, including casts of French’s own hands as well as French’s cast of Leonard Volk’s life mask of Abraham Lincoln.
