“What is Handshouse Studio and the Notre-Dame
de Paris Rooster Re-Creation Project?”
Join us for a free presentation with the creators under their workshop tent in the garden on
Thursday, August 24th at 4:00pm.
The Handshouse Notre-Dame Project was established to explore key features of the Gothic cathedral through workshops and exhibitions with participants and communities around the US. During a week-long workshop at Chesterwood faculty and students will investigate and re-create the traditional process of fabricating Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral’s copper rooster weathervane. The rooster weathervane dates from 1860 and once stood at the top of the 315-foot spire. It was subsequently damaged beyond repair during the devastating fire of 2019. In addition to the copper rooster other educational materials and drawings will be on display related to this project such as a large-scale wooden model of the roof structure above Notre-Dame cathedral’s choir.
The public is invited to visit with the faculty and students of the workshop while it is in progress from Wednesday, August 23 to Friday, August 25, as well as attend a public presentation on Thursday, August 24th at 4:00pm. Free with regular admission.
Regular admission tickets: $20 adults; children under 13 and members free, discounts available for military, seniors, EBT Card to Culture holders and members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
