Join artists Virginia Maksymowicz and Blaise Tobia for an illustrated presentation about the work of sculptor Ron Mehlman, the featured artist of the annual contemporary sculpture show. The talk will be followed by a walk to look at Mehlman's work throughout the grounds.
Virginia Maksymowicz (b. 1952, NYC) is a mixed-media, installation artist, whose work examines the relationship between the human body and architecture.She received a BA in Fine Arts from Brooklyn College (1973) and an MFA in Visual Arts from UC San Diego (1977). After returning to New York, she worked as an artist-in-residence for the Cultural Council Foundation CETA Artists Project (1978-79). She currently holds the title of Professor Emerita, Franklin & Marshall College, where she began teaching in the sculpture program in 1991.
Blaise Tobia (b. 1953, NYC) is a visual artist working primarily with photographic imagery. He studied at Brooklyn College (BA 1974) and the University of California at San Diego (MFA 1977), where he worked with artists in a variety of media including photographer Fred Lonidier, environmental artists Newton and Helen Harrison, and conceptual artists David Antin and Allan Kaprow. After returning to New York, he was a documentary photographer for the Cultural Council Foundation CETA Artists Project (1978-79). He began teaching at Drexel University in 1985 and was the founding director of its major in photography. He then went on to teach in digital media and fine arts, and is currently Professor Emeritus of Art & Art History.
