Created at the very end of his career, Daniel Chester French’s “Andromeda” portrays the mythological princess who was chained to a rock by her father, King Cepheus, as a sacrifice to appease Neptune, the god of the sea. French has chosen the moment before she is valiantly rescued by Perseus. The full-size plaster model can be viewed in the Collections Gallery at Chesterwood, and the full-size Carrara marble version still rests in the center of the studio at Chesterwood.
