Seasonal Maintenance Assistant

Description

  • April 1st through October 31st. 5 days/week, some weekend work required.
  • Maintain proper appearance and good condition of grounds, gardens and nature walks by mowing, trimming, raking, edging, and mulching, planting and other related specialized functions as assigned.
  • Operate and maintain mechanized maintenance equipment; keep tools sharp, clean, and in good order. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Perform janitorial and cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Work with maintenance staff on building and landscape projects.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required. Possession of a valid driver’s license; good physical condition, sense of humor, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, reliability, punctuality, and other good work habits. Prior experience with buildings and grounds maintenance preferred.

Seasonal Visitor Services, mostly weekends

Description

  • Open and close the Visitor Center.
  • Serve as telephone/reception and emergency center.
  • Greet visitors and orient them to the property.
  • Sell tickets and memberships to Friends of Chesterwood.
  • In-store and phone sales of stock.
  • Keep shop and storage clean and organized and keep track of inventory.
  • Paid training provided Friday, May 19 from 10-5.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required. Reliability, punctuality, good verbal and written communication skills, and accuracy required. Computer experience and skills preferred. Customer service/Retail experience is also preferred.

Seasonal Site Interpreters, mostly weekends

Description

  • Welcome and orient visitors to the site
  • Responsible for actively interpreting the history of Chesterwood, the residence, studio, and gardens for self-guided visitors
  • Share information about Chesterwood and the life and work of Daniel Chester French and his family
  • Answer questions from visitors on a range of topics related to Chesterwood, Daniel Chester French, sculpture, gardens, wooded trails, etc.
  • Interpret Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood annual exhibition
  • Provide for the safety and security of visitors while visiting the residence, studio, and grounds
  • Paid training provided Friday, May 19 from 10-5.

Qualifications

Must possess excellent speaking skills and be well presented. Promptness and reliability required. B.A. degree preferred. A love of art history is a plus.
