    IS183 Art Class: Sculpting the Head

August 21, 2012; 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. ] This IS183 Art School at Chesterwood course will explore techniques used in sculpting the form of the human head in clay. Students will learn the anatomical foundation of the face and head, examining bone structure and muscle placement to create a lifelike underlay upon which they will sculpt a likeness through direct observation. In addition to in-class exercises, each student will create and fire two busts over the duration of the course, the first a self-portrait and the second rendered from a model.

August 14, 2012; 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. August 21, 2012; 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. ] This IS183 Art School at Chesterwood course is an in-depth exploration into the process of sculptural composition. Students will generate two fully developed plans for future sculptures, complete with sketches, schematics, material budgets, and scale maquettes or 3D models. (This course will share class time and space between Daniel Chester French’s Studio and the IS183 Studio at Chesterwood in order to expose students to a broad range of sculptural practices.)
